All trains headed to Guangzhou from Hong Kong depart from the Hung Hom Station in Kowloon, and you can expect to arrive at the Guangzhou East Station once you touch down in Guangzhou. The same goes in reverse. Trains headed to Hong Kong from Guangzhou also depart from Guangzhou East Station and arrive at Hung Hom Station.
Pro tip: If you’re headed to Guangzhou for the Canton Fair, don’t expect to find a direct connection to the fairgrounds from Hong Kong, but there will be plenty of connecting shuttle busses at the railway station.

Tickets can be purchased as late as twenty minutes before a departure in Hong Kong, but must be purchased at least six hours before a departure in Guangzhou. However, make sure you budget enough time for border formalities, as Hong Kong is a separate municipality. That twenty minute grace period we just mentioned applies to Hong Kong ID holders only, everyone else will need at least another forty-five minutes.
Tickets can be purchased one of three ways:
- In person at either station
